Loving our enemies, embracing suffering, penance, obedience – they are not easy … until you learn the secret. Truth be told, the secret will not, in fact, make those things easier, but it will make them more bearable, and in fact, joyful. But the secret is not a secret. It’s been around for thousands of years.
It goes without saying that witchcraft is always a mortal sin. And both idolatry and witchcraft are both sins against the first commandment, which is to say they are directly against God and his sovereignty. There can be no greater sins. The conversion of the world starts with the conversion of the individual. The conversion of the individual begins with submitting to legitimate authority in its legitimate commands.
Humility is foundational for all the other virtues. As we seek to know the will of God in this world, we must do it with humility, or we will surely fall to pride.
Love is the answer. The answer to what? Pretty much everything. We are to trust that God is taking care and will take care of us. We are to focus on loving Him.
Holiness is found in fulfilling our duty of state. What about all the prayers and devotions? Wherever we find ourselves at any moment in life is also a vocation. Bad things are the result of sin not God, but God draws good from them. The perfections and goodness of God. Prayer, obedience, love. Penance.
We are our own worst enemy, because we make ourselves unhappy by not accepting what is, by preferring things to be other than what they are. We can be at peace if we choose to want what God wants. That way, we’re always getting what we want. We will not grow in peace nor will we grow in holiness until we recognize in all things an opportunity to lives God’s will for us.
Every single one of us was made with a God-sized hole in our souls. Our entire being cries out to fill this God-sized hole within us. We’re incomplete without God, and we cannot be happy without him.
